I recently made this video for my workplace. You may find this video useful if you are working in the Fabrication trade or related engineering trades.
There may also be a use for such a tool in many engineering workshops where it is required to capture evidence for traceability recording. Engineering Traceability The GoPro mounted to dial indicator assists with capturing evidence for identifying that the correct work sequence is being followed. The camera can be mounted above workers so it is not intrusive or can be used up close so specific evidence can be captured. The GoPro mounted to dial indicator can capture video or can take time lapse still photos over a set period. The advantage of time lapse photos is that less hard drive space will be required than if the go pro was recording video. This is the same if storing to a cloud as opposed to physical hard drive. Take note that the GoPro Hero 8 can live stream so these images can be sent straight to the cloud as the engineering work is taking place. Additional use for such a tool is that once the images are captured the digital files can be reviewed to improve sequence of tasks, this will provide ways to streamline the manufacturing process. Training videos can also be produced to reflect required in house changes & improvements to production. This training video was made in house by North Metro TAFE lecturing staff. The GoPro mount to the magnetic base of a dial indicator was made to assist Fabrication & Welding staff with their training delivery. The magnetic base is useful for attaching a GoPro camera to various types of fixed plant machinery and gives an up close perspective that can be discussed in class. The advantages of such a tool can provide a close view of cutting and mechanical movements of machinery which assist students in understanding cutting and bending processes. The GoPro mounted to dial indicator also assists in regard to safe work practises on specific machinery through classroom discussion around potential issues such as crushing & pinch points before the live work takes place. Some of my designs enhance traditional wrought iron architectural work. I have a range of other items which I intend to digitize and introduce and make available to download later in 2020. I have previously designed, fabricated and assembled many functional items which you can see via my gallery link on my web page. Some of my design work has ended up in places such as Toronto, Milwaukee, Ottawa & Sydney. It is satisfying knowing that some of my designs are in use in different corners of the globe.
